COVID-19: What is the difference between Isolation and Quarantine

ISOLATION refers to alone time whilst infected. Isolation means separation from everyone who is uninfected - including household members, work, school and shops.
Isolation should start from the time your symptoms begin rather than waiting for your test result. This may be several days after symptom onset. Isolation is for 10 days after symptom onset as long as you have had no fever and are improving for the last 3 days. In this case, the day symptoms start is counted as Day 0 and the day you are free is Day 11. If you were sick enough to require oxygen, isolation continues for 10 days after stopping oxygen.

QUARANTINE means staying alone in order to prevent transmitting the virus in the event that you are infected but asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic.
Quarantine is needed after close contact with an infected person because there is a chance of having been infected yourself. Close contact is more than 15 minutes without adequate mask wearing by both parties. Quarantine is for 10 days after LAST CONTACT.

Isolation and quarantine are both lonely and difficult, so be very careful to continue following COVID protocols: masks, social distancing and sanitising, and get vaccinated as soon as you have the opportunity to do so.
